The weigh-ins are complete for UFC on ESPN 56, though the event will proceed with one less fight than planned.
Jared Gooden (23-9 MMA, 2-4 UFC), who has a history of weight troubles, did not appear at the scale Friday for his welterweight bout against Kevin Jousset (10-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC). UFC officials announced the removal of their preliminary card matchup due to undisclosed medical concerns regarding Gooden.
This isn't the first time Gooden has struggled with weight. Just over a year ago, he tipped the scales at 177 pounds for a welterweight fight against Carlston Harris, resulting in a unanimous decision loss. In late 2021, he weighed in at 174 pounds before losing a decision to Randy Brown in his initial UFC stint.
In the main event, Derrick Lewis (27-12 MMA, 18-10 UFC), a two-time heavyweight title challenger, will face Rodrigo Nascimento (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC). Nascimento weighed in at 264.5 pounds, with Lewis hitting 264 shortly after, confirming their bout.
The weigh-ins occurred at the UFC host hotel in St. Louis, with the nearby Enterprise Center set to host Saturday’s event (ESPN/ESPN+).
