UFC Las Vegas was a low-key card that still gave real fans what they wanted. It was also a night where we saw some of our favorite fighters end up having a harsh night. After our first two prelim matches, we'd see Ariane Lipski return against JJ Aldrich solidifying a decision win.
Fans have been waiting for Lipski to step it up maybe now with this victory she can move up on the card in her next event. In the feature preliminary bout, we got to see Raphael Assuncao in his LAST fight against Davey Grant. Grant seemed to not take no for an answer. For everything Assuncao would throw at him he'd find a way to answer back, finally getting the submission win at the end of the fight. Assuncao would then put his gloves on the canvas and say his farewell to the promotion and to MMA. Who knows these days though, there is probably an exhibition for Assuncao waiting around the corner. The Main card opened strong with an exciting bout with newcomers Vitor Petrino vs Anton Turkalj. We almost got multiple moments we'd thought the fight would end with a KO/TKO. Turkalj was knockdown at one point and Petrino chased him to the floor but was caught with an up kick which had him stunned for that round. Eventually, Petrino got the decision victory but kudos to both men for putting on a great show. Mario Bautista made short work of Argentina's, Guido Cannetti with a submission finish at the beginning of the first round. A very surprising turn of events between Said Nurmagomedov and his opponent Jonathan Martinez. Everyone knows what the Nurmagomedov's can do and Said has shown to be very much part of that family. But the featherweight division also seems ready for the Dagestani warriors. After so many years of domination, Martinez was able to score a rare win over the clan which probably paints a target for him in future bouts.
Out of all people to get submitted Ryan Spann taps early in round one to Nikita Krylov. Krylov now moves up the ladder looking further up the top 5, we'll see where he goes from here. Volkov did not come to play or take it easy against his opponent Alexander Romanov. He immediately started putting hands on him looking for a quick knockout.
That's exactly what he got too. Volkov put his muay Thai together beautifully and got the KO win shortly after that bell rung. And at last, you never want to see your heroes fall but Petr Yan was outclassed in every way against Merab Dvalishvili. Yan maybe have won round one but after that, it was easy pickings for Merab. Hurting Yan with leg kicks and making him really feel it in rounds 3 and 4 to the point Yan noticeably slowed down and lost via Decision. Merab was seen smiling during clinches and was laughing his way into victory. Sterling and Cejudo have a strong contender here waiting.
