While I may have been away from the screen on Saturday night, I am happy to not have missed this banger of a Fight Card. Let's dive into the details of the Main Card and some amazing performances.
The first fight we'll look at was Angela Hill vs Launa Pinheiro. This was very important for both women as they are looking to get back into the top five and become a title contender again. The fight started with Pinheiro looking good off of her single power punches connecting accurately and often. Both women were throwing feints throughout the fight and kept getting bites. Pinheiro connected with a strong left hand that Hill followed up with a takedown that took us to the end of the round with Hill on top. The second round started with Hill landing consistently and strongly. Both women were landing on blitzes, which led to a takedown shot from Pinheiro and ended with a mounted guillotine counter from Hill. This performance won Hill a Performance of the Night Bonus.
The next fight was between Adrian Yanez and Vinicius Salvador. These two bantamweights were looking to launch their name into the mainstream of fighters and did not go easy on each other. Yanez was looking for counter shots for the entire fight, playing it safe and landing strongly. Yanez had good pressure for offense and better head movement for defense. It was a matter of time and Yanez sat down Salvador with a right overhand and finished the fight with Ground-and-Pound.
The following contest was a match between Themba Gorimba and Ramiz Brahimaj. The fight opened with a lot of cage battles for control and ended with a takedown and a lot of scrambles. The first round was spent on the fence with Brahimaj going for trips that Gorimba reversed and landed in top position for the duration of the round. In round 2, Gorimba was still working the counter takedowns and ending on top with more cage battles and wrestling exchanges. Another round to Gorimba. This did not let up in the final round. Gorimba left the fight to the judges but no one had a question as to who had won, Gorimba won by UD, all 30-27.
The Co-Main Event was between Khaos Williams and Carlston Harris. The first round had some amazing back-and-forth exchanges with a lot of strong jabs by Williams. Everyone knew why the jabs were being thrown by Williams, he was looking to set up a right overhand. He set it up, threw it, landed it, won it. A flush overhand right knocked Harris out cold. This fight and finish lead to a Performance of the Night bonus.
The Main Event was another amazing fight between Lerone Murphy and Edson Barboza. Round one started with great boxing from Murphy with awareness of the kick power from Barboza. Both guys were landing counters and getting some conditions already set. The fight went to the ground, but Barboza landed a massive up-kick that rocked Murphy hard but not enough to finish the fight. Round two had massive haymakers from both guys and great composure from Murphy. He was now working in some ground game which Barboza had no answer for. The round ended with many significant strikes landing for Murphy. Round three had a lot of crazy exchanges with feints and playing off of the other fighter but easily went to Murphy for the sheer number of strikes landing. This continued into the final two rounds and Murphy won via UD 49-46, 50-45, and 50-45. This won them Fight of the Night. A very dominant display of power from Murphy.
