Do I need to say anything? I don't think many people would argue that this fight card was, at worst, one of the best of all time if not the best. It had so many people, myself included watching since that first second of Garbrandt Vs. Figueiredo. There were some incredible fights throughout all the card, but let us dive straight into the Main Card.
The first fight to kick off the main card featured Bo Nickal taking on Cody Brundage. Bo Nickal has already shown us, in previous fights, that he can fight with the best. Cody Brundage was easily the best wrestler that Nickal had faced in the Octagon. The first round kicked off with Brundage leading the stand-up game, but then Nickal landed a takedown on Brundage, and they spent the rest of the round on the ground with Nickal looking for a Sub. The second round picked up right where the first left off, Nickal dominating on the ground. It was a matter of time, but Nickal settled into an RNC, and Brundage tapped fast. Another dominant performance from the former Rookie of the Year.
Next up was Charles Oliveira against Arman Tsarukyan. This was the second most anticipated fight, in my opinion (You'll see what my first was). There was a lot of talk about the hype surrounding Tsarukyan being questionable, which brought a lot of attention to it. The first round started with Oliveira jumping into a tight guillotine, that Tsarukyan surprisingly got out of. The first round ended with back-and-forth guard plays. The second round was more guard work from Tsarukyan who kept landing slicing elbows throughout the entire round. The third round was more top control from Tsarukyan. The fight went the distance and Tsarukyan won via split decision. I had Oliveira on my picks, and I was pleasantly surprised by Tsarukyan's victory. We are all excited to see him rise to the top.
The next fight was for the BMF title, which was Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway. This was my favorite fight before the night and it is still my favorite the morning after. The first round was back-and-forth boxing combinations, with Max coming out on top. The first round ended with Max throwing a spinning back kick that possibly broke Justin's nose. The second round was more of the same for Max with Justin's nose being a common issue for him. The third round was even MORE striking from both sides with Max landing the more accurate and powerful strikes. The fourth round had some back-and-forth kicks, and Justin knocked down Holloway for the first time in his illustrious career. The final round was more boxing from Max, and just as the clock hit ten seconds remaining. Max pointed to the center of the Octagon, to stand and bang. If you have been anywhere on the internet you know what happened. Max slept Justin with one-second remaining with one of the best fights I have ever seen. Max won the Fight of the Night bonus, AND a Performance of the Night, netting $600k. Well Deserved.
The Co-Main Event was between Yan Xiaonan and Zhang Weili. This fight was all Zhang. She took advantage of Yan's weaknesses, focused on her strengths, and committed to her game plan. There was so much ground pressure and distance boxing. Zhang controlled the entire fight from the opening bell to the final clapper. Great performance from a great champion. She will have a long reign.
It's Time! The Main Event was upon us. Alex Periera Vs. Jamahal Hill. This fight was another great performance from Poaton. Alex lead the dance on the feet and kept Hill on a leash. The jabs and leg kicks were looking great and his unorthodox style threw Hill off. Hill landed a cup shot on Pereira, he shrugged Herb Dean off, and landed a left uppercut less than five seconds later. The following ground shots finalized the dominance of Pereira. What a finish to show and lead to the next generation of PPVs.
What a card! I have no complaints. All the fights lived up to what they promised. They were amazing. Dana followed up with some fight announcements in the press conference. What a night and cannot wait to see what happens. Tune into the Punchline for more fight news. Thank you.
