Kudos to Dana White for putting a stellar card tonight, the fans couldn't be more grateful.
Salt Lake City, Utah -- Last night's UFC 291 was an electrifying spectacle, offering fans a riveting card that satisfied their thirst for action-packed fights. From the exhilarating prelims to the adrenaline-pumping main event, the evening was a true celebration of combat sports. Our favorite standout moment of the prelims was the epic comeback victory of Kopylov over Claudio Ribeiro. Ribeiro aggressively took control early in the round. However, in a jaw-dropping twist, Kopylov found an opening and delivered a devastating blow that left Ribeiro unconscious in a flash knockout (flash KO).
Starting off the main card Kevin Holland and Michael Chiesa squared off. From the opening bell, it was clear that neither fighter was holding back. Chiesa, the seasoned Ultimate Fighter winner, attempted to implement his renowned grappling skills, but Holland proved to be an unyielding force. In a stunning twist, Holland seized an opportunity and displayed his versatility with a brilliant submission maneuver. Chiesa caught off guard, found himself entangled in a submission hold he couldn't escape. Holland's technical mastery earned him a well-deserved victory and a coveted performance bonus. Fans also witnessed a clash between two veterans, Tony Ferguson and Bobby Green. Despite their awkward fighting styles, both competitors engaged in an intriguing battle that kept spectators captivated. However, the fight took an unexpected turn as an accidental eye poke marred Ferguson's performance, ultimately influencing the outcome.
As the fight began, I was in the zone … He has a big history of moves like this … it significantly impaired my vision
Derek Lewis's match against Diego Lima was undoubtedly the quickest fight. In a matter of seconds, "The Beast" Lewis showcased his ferocity and precision, leaving fans in awe of his spectacular performance.
In a move reminiscent of Jorge Masvidal's iconic flying knee, Derek Lewis wasted no time in asserting his dominance. Diego Lima, caught off guard by Lewis's lightning-quick assault, struggled to recover from the powerful strike. Recognizing the moment to capitalize on his advantage, Lewis pounced on the opportunity, finishing the fight in a matter of seconds with a barrage of well-placed ground-and-pound strikes.
WHOSE THE BADDEST in the UFC?
A rematch for the ages unfolded between some of the promotions' most violent, exciting, and badass fighters ever. Justin Gaethje's second belt in the promotion isn't the champions belt but the BMF belt. Jorge Masvidal's former belt before he retired, in fact, he's the one who came to bestow the winner with the belt. The fight started out similar to their last fight, with Poirier putting the pressure. Many analyses said it'd be the same outcome, especially with Dustin's experiences lately. Gaethje was able to read between the lines and got the KO kick (Leon Rocky vibes). What's next for Gaethje? How about a real title fight, again?
