UFC 287 Was The Best Card Of The Year So Far

The UFC gave fight fans worldwide a show to remember last night. The rivalry between Adesanya and Pereira made for one of the best stories in middleweight history. It was complimented with an extraordinary card built around it including a bout featuring Miami's very own, Jorge Masvidal.

UFC Preliminary Warriors

After watching the prelim bouts one could say it was one of the most engaging cards in recent times. Skipping to Meerschaert vs Pyfer we get our second knockout of the night, Pyfer lands a classic hook, straight right to Meerschaert's chin which sends him to the floor where the referee ends it in the middle of round one no less. The lovely Michelle Waterson aka "The Karate Hottie" was edged somehow by her opponent Pinheiro on the scorecards. Everyone agreed that decision was "sketchy" to say the least. Although Pinheiro seemed to be stronger, Waterson used her years of experience to move and stay creative, hitting her from multiple angles. Who'd thought we see Gastelum back on the prelims? He's led the main event in quite a few cards in the past. Enter Chris Curtis (30-10). With 40 matches under his belt, he was not someone that Kevin could take lightly. Gastelum had great success with leg kicks in round one but abandoned the technique later in the fight and started moving backward as Curtis started gaining momentum. Curtis moves to 31-10 now looking towards the top five possibly later this year.

Celebrity DeathMatch

Miami fans who attended got a taste of what the best in the business is like. UFC truly does hold the best fighters in the world, period. They proved that last night, fight after fight, we had some of UFC's biggest names ready to die against each other. THE HYPE TRAIN HAS BEEN DERAILED. Rosas Jr, the youngest fighter on the UFC roster suffered his first loss against Christian Rodriguez. After claiming a lot of things online he wakes up today humbled and knows now the road ahead is not an easy one. Kevin Holland is back in the winning column after knocking out Ponzinibbio in the middle of the third round. Kevin almost retired recently after a loss to Chimaev but seems to be reinvigorated. Rob Font hoped to continue New England's winning streak and he did just that. Knocking out Adrian Yanez in the first round now shows he's ready for guys like O'Malley and Yan. Eager to hear from this fighter again he may headline an event in the near future.

For The People

Sadly, Jorge Masvidal was not able to walk away with the W last night. But his career and life with always be one to remember. From the backyards of Miami to fighting in the Arena of his hometown, he must be proud. When Masvidal entered the room, the arena blew up! So did sports bars and living rooms all across South Florida.

MASVIDAL, MASVIDAL, MAVIDAL

After being beaten to the punch by Burns, Masvidal left the octagon with grace and fans wished him a bittersweet goodbye. What he's done and continues to do for MMA and for the people in Miami will never be forgotten.

We Meet, Again

Isreal Adesanya will go down as the greatest middleweight of all time in my opinion. The level of competition, the rematches, and his newly sealed redemption arc has made it so. Alex Pereira was the boogeyman in his life but was able to stop the talking after he finally knocked him out after his fourth try. After avenging his losses he goes on to Say Periera must do the hard work to get back in the ring with him but that he will probably go to the 205-pound division. We'll have to wait and see what he decides to do. If this event was an indication of anything it's that, the UFC must come back to Miami!
