Fundora to Fight Spence Jr

Writer: BrianBrian

Sebastian Fundora and Errol Spence Jr. have inked a deal for a WBC junior middleweight title clash set for October in Dallas, sources confirmed to ESPN.

PBC aims to host this Prime Video PPV event at AT&T Stadium, contingent on the finalized date aligning with the Dallas Cowboys' home schedule. Spence, 34, has a history of triumphs at this venue, securing victories against Mikey Garcia and Yordenis Ugas.

After Fundora's unexpected victory over Tim Tszyu in March’s intense battle to claim the title, Spence entered the ring to challenge him, declaring, "It's time to get it on. He’s got impressive height, but we’ll see. We’ll break him down like we always do."

Fundora, standing at a remarkable 6-foot-5½ with an 80-inch reach, is an anomaly in the 154-pound division. The 26-year-old captured his first title following a seventh-round knockout loss to Brian Mendoza in 2023, one of the year's most shocking outcomes. A year later, Fundora (21-1-1, 14 KOs) is ranked as ESPN's top junior middleweight after stepping in on short notice to overcome Tszyu, replacing the injured Keith Thurman.

Nicknamed "The Towering Inferno," Fundora and his sister Gabriela are trailblazers, being the first brother-sister duo to become full-fledged champions in boxing history.

Spence, on the other hand, is set to debut at 154 pounds following a ninth-round TKO loss to Terence Crawford in July for the undisputed welterweight championship. Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) was a fixture on ESPN’s pound-for-pound list until that defeat.

Spence has also recently parted ways with long-time trainer Derrick James, who had been with him since his amateur days, culminating in a stint at the 2012 Olympics. The two are currently embroiled in a legal dispute over financial disagreements.
