After years of chasing the fight, Jermell Charlo got his chance at the undisputed middleweight king himself, Saul Canelo Alvarez.
A fight that has been years in the making took place last night between some of boxing best. Canelo Alvarez returned to face Jermell Charlo, a fight that fans have been talking about for years. Charlo, although slightly bigger than Canelo, fights at a lower weight class but takes the fight that he and the world want to see. After Canelo fought John Ryder, both Charlo's seemed confident enough that they were even caught saying they knew they could beat him.
Alvarez has spent years trying to prove to the world that he is indeed the best, taking some of the hardest challenges out there, even as HATERS continued to deny him. After last night's bout between the two, there should be no doubt that Canelo is the best in boxing right now. Canelo spent the entire fight against Jermell Charlo hunting him as Jermell tried to use his legs to move out of the way of Canelo's destructive punches.
Round one may have been the only round for many that Charlo did enough to win the round, after that Canelo Alvarez started cutting off the ring and used big shots to make Jermell understand the type of power he was dealing with. Some say Charlo was landing more but COMPUBOX stats show Canelo was the busier fighter.
As seen above Canelo landed a lot more in every round against Charlo in every regard. Charlo fans came to defend his honor as they should but with weak defenses as usual and excuses. All respect to Charlo but right after the fight the first thing he said was that "I didn't feel myself in there" the one thing hardcore fans did not want to hear.
At the end of the day, Charlo may have lost the hunger to be great since it seems he didn't give it his all. It's easy to look great against a fighter who doesn't have a commitment to win the fight. Canelo states he wants to come back in May of 2024 for his next bout, but against whom? David Benavides? Charlo Rematch? Maybe Terrence Bud Crawford. His answer to this question was:
I don't care who it is.
Anyone, anytime, anywhere!
