Caleb Plant Goes The Distance vs The Mexican Monster David Benavidez

Last night, March 25, 2023, fans got treated to a highly anticipated match-up between boxing's top fighters in the 168-pound division. Fans have come to really like Caleb Plant, especially after his fight last year with the 168-pound king Canelo Alvarez. Before ultimately losing to Alvarez he'd show the world what he was really made of, making it hard for Canelo during the middle rounds. Even getting the respect and acknowledgment from the legend as he fought him. Being humble in defeat won the crowd and Caleb's stock is at an all-time high now. He would go on to defeat Anthony Durrel by a vicious knockout which earned him a fight with the Mexican monster David Benavidez.

Benavidez starts hurting Plant late in the match

Benavidez is a young elite who has yet to win the respect of his high-level peers. The narrative going around before the fight was that he hasn't been challenged yet. Benavidez has been clawing at a chance to fight guys like Plant and Alvarez but understand he is relatively new in the game. Lots of trash talk were exchanged between Plant and Benavidez making this fight even more interesting. By the time the bell had rung the world was on the edge of its seats. After an incredible card and some questionable decisions fans tuned in to watch this grudge match unfold.

In the first half Plant would use his footwork and blazing speed to keep the distance and counter-punch the bigger opponent. Benavidez would become frustrated chasing Plant for almost the whole first half of the fight. Caleb Plant executed beautiful 4 punch combinations and used the stabbing jab to the body perfectly to keep Benavidez away. After many frustrating rounds, Benavidez would really start putting the pressure on, going forward and never backing down. The clinch would end up being the deciding factor. Benavidez went as so far to say "Kenny Bayless is the one who really saved him (Plant)". David Benavidez started making his adjustments in round 4 or 5 as Plant slowed down a bit. Before getting caught in the clinch he started throwing very sharp and short hooks that started doing real damage. Some shots looked like David used his elbow but most of those strikes were legitimate. If Bayless would have warned Plant about the clinch we might have had a knockout because he was in much danger during rounds 10,11 and 12.

After the match had concluded Benavidez wins by decision. Plant earned the respect of the crowd and fans around the world again as both fighters came together humbled by the experience with each other.
