Montana November 9-- Great to be back with y'all once again. Starting off with an amazing BKFC card featuring a friend in the fight world, Kai Stewart. There were many great performances in this card. Let's run through the Main Card and see what went down.
To kick off the Main Card, we have one of my partner's friends in Louie Lopez facing off against off against Robert Armas. The first round started with a very fast crash at the center of the ring with Lopez landing good shots. Throughout the fight, Lopez did an amazing job evading Armas's looping overhead right and countering with clean check-hooks. In round two, Armas continued pursuing that right hand, which eventually lead to a good blitz from Lopez followed by powerful single shots to end the round. The third round consisted of more traditional boxing from Lopez with in-and-outs working consistently for him. The last two rounds consisted of more defensive and counter-punch style from Louie which took the fight to the last bell. The judge's granted the unanimous decision to Lopez improving his record to an even 4-4.
The next fight was between Christian Torres and Dallas Davison. The fight started with strong body work from Torres but left Davison an opening to land a massive uppercut that knocked down Torres early. Shortly after, Davison landed one more left hook that dropped Torres once more. Between rounds the doctors had no choice but to call the fight off due to a nasty cut on Torres's face.
The fight that followed one of the shortest fights of the night was between Brady Meister and Cory Willis. This resulted in a very similar result as Willis opened the fight with a massive flurry of punches that ended Meister's night early in the first.
Following this flash finish, was a clash of cruiserweights: Bryant Acheson and Scott Roberts. Early in the round, Acheson gets a knockdown, followed by another counter-right to make the ref call the fight for the third time in a row in the first round.
To the lighter weight classes, we looked to Timmy Mason and Brandon Allen. In the first round, they were power right hands being thrown by whilst taking advantage of the clinch opportunities, landing good body shots. The second round continued the clinch battles, but this was quickly interrupted by a right hand that dropped Mason. The round continued with Allen controlling the pace and ended with Allen dropping Mason right before the bell. Right as the bell rang for the start of the third round, Allen landed one more right cross that knocked down Mason once more, this one ended the fight.
The featured bout was between Zach Juusola and Carlos Trinidad. In the first round, there was lots of blitz and clinches, but with a sharp jab, Juusola took a knee and the following 8-count. In the second round, the same thing happened, with Juusola getting hit with another sharp jab that led him to take a knee and catch his balance. The third round ended with some strong and accurate power shots from Trinidad to make the ref call the fight.
The Co-Main was a battle of two veterans of combat sports, between Julian Lane and Alfredo Angulo. The first round had Lane landing strong short uppercuts in the clinch and good shots on both in the distance game. The second round showed off Angulo's unrelenting pressure, even though it resulted in him getting caught by short hooks or uppercuts more times than not. In round three, Angulo switched targets and worked the body, almost too much as he accidentally got a low blow and let Lane recover a little bit. Angulo finished by working the clinch very well. The fourth round had a good sequence of combinations by both men, with Lane winning most of the exchanges. In the final round, Lane controlled the perimeter while Angulo was looking for the finish, and as the final bell rang, Lane put his hands up in victory. A well earned win against a former boxing champion.
For the Main Event of the evening, King Kai Stewart came out to fight Jimmy Rivera. There was a certain swag to Kai's entrance, like he knew the result before he even stepped into the squared circle. In the first round, Rivera was pushing for the clinch while Kai was using good footwork to land clean shots. In the second round, Kai opened it with a right hand that seemed to drop Rivera, but the ref didn't seem to be affected by it, both men had some great clinch work and distance management. The third round had even more striking and feints from Kai, while he led the dance and kept Rivera always on his toes. The fourth round was all Kai as he was landing clean shots and controlling the pace of this round. The final round was almost a mirror image of the previous with Kai dominating the distance management and landing cleanly. The fight went to decision and the belt will be staying in the Big Sky County. Congratulations to the King of the 145 lb. division.
