Tonight's Bellator MMA card was world-class from top to bottom. If you missed the prelims you missed one of MMA's hottest prospects "Magic" Norbert's stellar performance. Fans online got behind him showing love from all sides of the world.
Banger after Banger
The night seemed like there were endless bangers back to back. Bellator has come a long way and I think we can all agree that more MMA spread out through the week is a good thing. It seems these promotions are not scared to test the waters anymore and are more confident about putting a banger card on a Friday night.
Familiar faces
The main card had some familiar fighters on the card. In 2023 there are now more elite fighters outside the UFC with some being their former fighters.
Tonight we had Phil Davis vs Corey Anderson which is very high level despite what hater may say. Both are former UFC fighters and have faced the highest level of competition and surprisingly met tonight on Bellator.
Corey Anderson comes out victorious and hopefully gets more respect after tonight. Beating Davis is harder than it looks but he almost cruised through it. Excellent fight IMO although I understand if wrestling is not your cup of tea.
My own legacy
Another former UFC fighter shows up in co-main even in Sergio Pettis. Younger brother of Anthony Pettis and current Bantamweight Champion for Bellator. Young Pettis loves his older brother but is prideful and wants to show the world he is his own fighter.
Across him was Bellators pride and joy Patricio Pitbull looking very strong despite all the weight cutting. Tonight was his chance and make MMA history once again and become the first 3 division MMA champion. It was going just like that until the end of round 2 where Pettis changed the course of the fight with a spinning round house and clipped.
After that kick Pettis took the fight into his realm landing more strikes and avoiding staying on the floor. It was obvious Pitbulls BJJ was better and that was his only chance after round 2 but couldn't keep him floored. After winning, Pettis was visited in the ring by the Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix winner Patchy Mix. It seems the two have agreed to the fight and it has a nice ring to it. UFC should take note.
This Fossil Still Got Fuel
Tonight was really star-studded! In the main event former UFC fighter Yoel Romero attempts to take the belt from the light heavyweight champion Nemkov an elite fighter and he proved that tonight. Romero's age showed tonight against the younger fresher fighter.
He fought a very smart fight and learns from his mistakes quickly. In round 2 Romero does his classic act where he pretends to be hurt. First time? He had Nemkov fooled for a moment and dives in for the punch which catches him sending him to the canvas. There might have been a push in there but he was hurt nonetheless.
Aside from that small mistake, Romero was completely outclassed this time. Maybe if it were the Romero that fought Whittaker he'd have the belt but he loses by decision. You have to respect Romero after that though Nemkov is a force to be reckoned he tools everything he that him.
Yoel definitely has great acting skills and he could possibly be looking at an Oscar after all that drunken boxing.
